“Yet you abandoned Me and served other gods; therefore I will no longer save you.” (Judges 10:13)
In the book of Judges, God’s people kept making the same mistakes again and again. They would forget God and worship every other thing. Then, when they got into trouble, they would cry out to God for help. After God saved them, they would go back to their old ways. It was a never-ending cycle.
Does this sound familiar? Sometimes, hard as it is for us to admit, we are exactly like the Israelites. Perhaps we promise to obey God, but then, we choose to make another mistake—such as lying, being selfish, or disobeying our parents. We always apologise… but later, repeat the same mistakes as if they never ever happened before.
God loves us very much, but He also wants us to change, move forward, and never look back. When the Israelites were truly sorry, they didn’t just say the words—they showed it. They got rid of their idols and turned back to God with all their hearts. When God saw their pain, He had compassion on them, and helped them, time and again.
True repentance is much more than the words “I'm sorry.” It means choosing to turn away from sin and follow God in a new way. If something causes us to sin, it’s important to change or run away from it. This might take the shape of spending less time on games, being better friends, or being disciplined in setting time aside to pray and read the Bible everyday.
God is always ready to forgive, but He wants our hearts to be honest and earnest. He wants us to grow closer and closer each day to Him and His example.

In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, we pray.

Help us love what is good and obey Your Word.
