What are some characteristics of a false prophet?

In all the preceding chapters, a recurring question I have is - why? Why can the people continue in their sinful ways even as some of them have already been taken captive?

May the righteousness, mercy and faithfulness of God towards Israel serve as constant reminders and points of reflection to us of our own everlasting commitments unto God.

Is there dissonance between our church selves and public selves, and has this become hypocritical?
